broadband - signing up

How do I sign up and connect?
You can check out our broadband prices and product details on the iiNet website. Then follow the link to sign up online or over the phone with one of our sales team on 13 19 17. Make sure you have your credit card or direct debit details handy.

Please note: Not all telephone lines are compatible with broadband, so if you make an application for broadband, we check the compatibility of your line. If your line is compatible, your telephone line is physically plugged into the DSLAM hardware and special codes are applied on your telephone line to allow you to connect to the Internet via broadband. All of this occurs at the exchange and we do not need to come to your home to connect you to broadband.

How do I know if I'm going to be on the iinetwork?
When you sign up using our online application , you will be asked to enter the phone number for which you're applying for broadband. You will then be notified if you will be connected to the DSLAM network (ADSL 2+ network) and if there is availability before selecting your plan and completing the rest of the online application. Please note, however, that this is still just an initial check and we will confirm that you have been placed on a DSLAM in an email after application. If we cannot place you on our network you will be asked if you'd still like broadband1/broadband1 transit (up to 8000 kbps) speeds before we complete your application.

What if I already have broadband with another provider?
If you are connected with another provider and would like to come over to us, we will always try to use the the Fast Transfer process first. If your current provider doesn't participate in the Fast Transfer process, we will contact you by email as you will need to disconnect your service with your current provider before we can install our broadband service.

I have broadband with another provider and my exchange is covered by the iinetwork. How do I apply?
If you have ADSL with another provider and your phone line is in an exchange covered by the iinetwork (and broadband2+ places are available), and your current provider participates in the Fast Transfer process onto our network, then you will be transferred with minimal downtime. First you will need to complete the broadband application. If after you've submitted it we determine that your current provider does not participate in the Fast Transfer process, you will need to advise your current provider that you wish to disconnect your current broadband connection (we will contact you if this is the case).

We will automatically be notified when the disconnection is complete, and we will begin the process to connect you to our DSLAM if there are ports available. The process will take approximately 10 working days from the time your ADSL is cancelled. During this period you will be unable to use your broadband connection. However, while you are waiting you can take advantage of our free back-up dialup account that we provide so that you can still check your emails and surf the web.

I have broadband with another provider and my exchange is not covered by the iinetwork, how do I apply?
We can offer the Fast Transfer process if your current provider participates. Fast Transfer enables you to move from one Internet Service Provider (ISP) to another with a reduced setup fee and shorter turn-around time for account activation. Most ISPs offer Fast Transfer. Find out if your ISP is a participant. You do not need to disconnect from your current provider before connecting to iiNet. The usual time frame for a Fast Transfer to occur is approximately 5-10 working days, and the downtime is generally only 1-2 hours. The Fast Transfer process is available through our online application which authorises us to move your service across to iiNet.

Can we speed up the signup process?
Unfortunately, we are dependant on our suppliers to connect your service, and therefore, we are subject to their timeframes. We will do our best to process your application as quickly as possible and provide you with dialup access whilst your service is provisioning.

Can I get connected to a DSLAM if I have been rejected by another provider?
Unfortunately, testing of your line is subject to the same conditions regardless of your provider. If you have been rejected by another provider, it is likely that we will not be able to supply you with broadband. However, as there is no fee to apply for broadband , we would be more than happy to test your line and confirm the rejection. Technology often changes so it is worthwhile for us to test your line once a month to see if you can now connect to broadband. You can do this yourself with our online application.

What information do I get when I join?
We'll keep you up to date on the progress of your application via email or SMS. You can also login to toolbox to track progress and find out when your account will be activated. When your broadband service is working, you'll receive your chosen hardware by postal mail (if applicable) and we'll remind you of the username and password you chose when you signed up. We'll also provide the information you need to connect your modem and set-up your mailbox.

Can I access the Internet while I wait for my broadband service?
Yes. While you are waiting for your broadband service to be activated, we'll provide you with free dial-in access. You will need to configure your computer's Internet dial properties to call up 0198 379 000, and to include your broadband username and password. If you are switching from an iiNet dial account, you won't be able to access the Internet until you change these settings. When your broadband service is activated you can continue to use this dial-in account as a backup service. The national dial-up number may not be charged as a local call, so please check by calling 1800 11 30 11 or contact your phone provider.

What is the Fair Contract Guarantee?
