i can't access my modem on Windows 2000
Modem's don't always play nice. So sometimes in order to get our PC to see them we need to fiddle to get them to talk to each other. This is how we get a modem and a PC to communicate.
- Click Start then Settings then Control Panel
- In Control Panel double click on Network and Dialup Connections
- Locate the Local Area Connection for the network adapter connected to your Ethernet modem, right-click it and select Properties.
- Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) which will highlight it.
- Click on Properties
- By default the settings will be set to Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Change this to Use the following IP address .
- For this you will need some information about your modem.
- IP address : The IP address for your computer
- Subnet Mask : This will fill out on its own
- Default Gateway : The IP address of your modem/router.
- The above settings are correct for the iiNet Belkin modem.
- Click Okay to set the settings.
Congratulations! You have now set up your PC so it can communicate with your modem. You can now proceed with your normal modem setup.
