i can't access my modem on Windows Vista
Modem's don't always play nice. So sometimes in order to get our PC to see them we need to fiddle to get them to talk to each other. This is how we get a modem and a PC to communicate.
- First, head down to the Start menu and then to Control Panel
- In the Control Panel select the option called Network and Internet
- Once in the Network and Internet category select Network and Sharing Center
- The Network and Sharing Center gives you an overview of the network status of your computer
- Click on Manage network connections
- The Network Connections control panel will be displayed
- Here you can see the connections your computer can use
- By right-clicking once on the Local Area Connection you will see the option Properties in the menu that opens up - left click on this once
- You will be prompted by Vista's User Access Control, click Yes to continue
- You should now be in the Local Area Connection Properties and everything should be selected as per the image below - you may need to select and deselect some options to get it to look the same
- Once this is complete click on Internet Protocol Version 4 so that it is highlighted
- Click on the Properties button
- The Internet Protocol Properties will now be on your screen and should look like the below image
- From here, click into Use the following IP address
- Depending on what type of modem you have will determine the information you need to enter into this section - check your modem manual for more information or contact your modem manufacturer
- The sample information is for the Belkin range of modems supplied by iiNet
- Click OK to complete
You should now be able to browse to your modem correctly to complete your setup..
