how to activate your VOIP/iiTalk number
VOIP or iiTalk not activated? No problem. This DIY guide won't keep you up all night, in fact, it only takes around 2 minutes to successfully activate your VOIP/iiTalk number.
First off, to follow this DIY guide you will need to know two things:
- VOIP/iiTalk number (including area code); and
- VOIP/iiTalk password.
Both of these are included on the email we sent to you when you first purchased VOIP or when your iiTalk service became active as well as on your welcome letter, if you received one. Your VOIP/iiTalk password is different to the password you use to check email and use toolbox. If you cannot find your password, please call our support line.
For iiNet branded Belkin Modems:
Note: If you have a D-Link or other modem, the setup screen for VOIP/iiTalk may look slightly different, though the same settings should apply. If you run into any problems, please give us a call.
- Ensure all the cables connecting to your modem are in the right place as per your hardware manual.
- With your modem/router powered on, open your internet browser and enter the address http://10.1.1.1 and press Enter. If you do not have a Belkin modem, try http://192.168.1.1
- You will be presented with a Login screen for your modem/router.
- Type the username for your modem/router and click Login. Unless you have changed your username and/or password, your username should be " admin " (without the quotes). If you have changed the login for your modem/router you will need to enter your new log in details.
- You will then be see the Setup Wizard screen which is broken up into two sections: ADSL Parameter Settings and VoIP Parameter Settings . Scroll to VoIP Parameter settings , click the box for VOIP Account 1 .
- Enter your VOIP/iiTalk phone number with no spaces or brackets and include area code.
- Enter your VOIP/iiTalk password. This password should be with your account details we sent you when you originally signed up for VOIP, or when your iiTalk service became active. If you do not have this password, call 13 22 58.
- Click "Register". The screen should flash with the words "Your data is being saved".
- If successful, the setup screen will return and VoIP Registration will now display " Succeed ". If the message returns " Trying ", click refresh and wait for the status indicator to show " Succeed ". If it displays " Failed " please refer to our VOIP/iiTalk troublshooting article.
- Plug your telephone handset into the Phone 1 port on your modem/router. If it's working you should hear a continuous tone.
Well done! You are now ready to make and receive VOIP/iiTalk calls.
