What equipment do I need?
In order to use iiNet VOIP or iiTalk customers must have:
- One of our broadband plans
- A VOIP enabled modem or ATA
- A spare telephone handset.
Please see VOIP diagram for more information
Can I use my ordinary phone?
Yes you can use your ordinary home phone by using an analogue to digital adapter (ATA) or by purchasing a VOIP enabled router
What is an ATA hardware device?
An ATA hardware device is necessary if you wish to use your existing telephone and you DO NOT have an existing VOIP enabled router. The ATA device converts the analog signals from your phone in to digital signals that can be sent over the internet.
What if I already have a VOIP enabled router?
Excellent - all you need now is a spare handset.
How will I know whether my router is VOIP enabled?
Check the specifications in the documentation your router came with or the box in which it came. Failing this, contact the hardware retailer you purchased the router from and ask them if your router is VOIP enabled.
Can I use my own VOIP hardware with your service?
You may use your own equipment over our VOIP network, however we can not supply support for equipment not purchased from iiNet, nor can we guarantee that it will work on the network.
What type of phones can I connect to the VOIP adapters?
You can connect any Touchtone Phone which is approved for use in Australia.
Where are the iiNet VOIP servers and network located?
In our main state based capital city Points of Presence (POPs)
Is this iinet network? (Do we own or lease the network infrastructure? What effect does this have on me?)
iiNet owns the VOIP network, which allows us to offer a premium quality of service to our customers.
